Gallup has asked, "If your party nominated a generally well-qualified person for president who happened to be X, would you vote for that person?" for X = {Catholic, black, Jewish, female, hispanic, Mormon, homosexual, atheist}. Below I have plotted their results over time.

That's interesting - but what is going on around 2000 that we see declines for what looks to be everybody but Catholics and Mormons? The decline isn't necessarily large/huge, but there does seem to be a synchronized decline around that time.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm curious about that too. It's easy to speculate but hard to really know without more information than we have here. More recent data, for example, would be interesting...
